Candleshoe (1977)
A greedy con-man named Harry Bundage recrutes a street kid named Casey Brown (Jodie Foster) for a job. There is great treasure to be found at Lady St Edmund's large country estame called Candleshoe. Casey takes on the role of Lady St. Edmund's long lost grandaughter who had disapeared as a baby after the death of her father. Once in the house and graces of Candeshoe a search for the burried treasure ensues. That is the simple basic storyline in a nutshell. Although she is a young lady, the young Jodie Foster really seems more like a dude than a gal in this film which i'm not sure is part of the overall plot or just her personality.
This is one of the more serious minded Disney pictures I have seen. The main charcter is even seriously injured duing the course of the story. It does however have a wacky fight and chase scene at the end and a rather cool sequence at the beginning of the film. In this scene Jodie tricks some bullies into chasing her and some other buddies across a mechanic’s shop. There she dumps a barrel of oil for them to slip and slide in. This scene may have inspired the fight scene in the 'Transporter' in which the action hero does somthing simalr.
Maybe.
She even gets into a fight with another girl. Lots of fighting and scuffles.
I wish I had more to say about this film which is the case with certian reviews that I sometimes write.
Oveall to sum up this brief review, it is not my favorite Disney film, but it is a well made one at that.
