No Deposit, No Return February 1976

Duke (Darren McGavin) and his partner in crime Bert (Don ‘Karate Chops’ Knots) are simple safe crackers trying to make a honest dishonest living breaking open safes. As they flee a safe crack that went bad they happen to hop in a cab with two kids named Tracy and Jay Osborne. Tracy and Jay have just landed at the airport and have evaded their grandfather J.W. Osborne (David ‘Pink Panther’ Niven) whom they are to stay with on the Easter holidays while their mom is in Hong Kong and their nanny is in Jamaica.

The two kids decide that these two crooks are going to kidnap them and hold them for ransom much to their dismay. Duke and Bert agree hesitantly to go along with the kids scheme in order to pay off the bookie ‘Big Joe’, who is after them. The kids will then use the money they get from the deal to go to Hong Kong to see their mother.

There are plenty of fun and funny moments in NDNR. Don Knots chases Jay’s pet skunk (yes that is right) Duster across the rooftop of the apartment where they are staying unto a high rise construction site. There are plenty of close calls of death where you have to catch your breath. Jay devices some traps in the apartment which at one point, I think at least five men are hanging by their ankles, by ropes from the ceiling.  This is one of a handful of  very amusing comical sights. And at the end is another wonderful slapstick fun unbelievable chase scene in which the cop car doing the chasing is stripped bare by the end of the chase.

There are funny moments strewn throughout the picture  with some touching moments of real heartfelt emotion, especially when the kids mom shows up. She even ends up sharing a ride with the Duke and Bert. A fun fun picture that deserves a place in the family library.
