Now You See Him, Now You Don't July 1972

Now You See Him, Now You Don't  July 1972

Disney has a deep affection for nerds. The Absent Minded Professor (Fred McMurry), Merlin Jones (Tommy Kirk) and Dexter Riley (Kurt Russel). But somehow the nerdy protagonist from one of the most boring Disney movies ever ‘The Computer wore Tennis Shoes’, got a trilogy where the other two only got just one sequel each. Somehow the Disney magic absent from the first film reappears in this film as the protagonist disappears.

Dexter invents a formula that allows one to become invisible. Lots of wacky moments occur as he uses his invisibility to help the Medfield Dean Higgins (Joe Flynn) win a golf tournament to impress some rich guy played by Therson Howell the3rd, who may or may not allow Medfield college into the big science fair. Soon the villain from the first film A.J. Arno (Cesar Romero), learns of the invisibility spray and with one of his henchmen plot a bank robbery.

At the end of the film comes another wacky fun slapstick dangerous car chase. The chase becomes more fun once the getaway car turns invisible. The comedy, fun and overall quality of the 2nd film far exceeds the mediocrity of the first film. I’m interested in what will happen in the final film, ‘The Strongest Man in the World’. Will the strength of the film falter or disappear or will the computer have worn out the tennis shoes?
