The Wild Country (1970)
Life is not easy living on a run down ranch in 1880’s Wyoming.
Brush Fire.
Wild Tornados.
Finding A Strange Man, his Indian companion and pet wolf camping out in your house when you arrive at your settlement for the first time.
Bears who chase you up a tree.
Wild horses who look like deer and almost cause you to shoot it when you go out hunting for your family’s dinner. There are no vegins in this time and place.
A nasty greedy neighbor who doesn’t give a dam about sharing the only stream that irrigates your land and is your waters supply. He also starts fights with you at the only store in town just because he’s a hot headed selfish jerk.
It’s not Mayberry County anymore Ron Howard, it’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’ territory. LHOTP (Disney version) is a much better more exciting fulfilling mini-series to watch with a more engaging story and characters. This ‘Life on the Fronteer’ film is pleasant enough, but Little House is far superior in it’s story telling ability.
The Wild Country is worth visiting but like the mother in the film, you’ll want to go back to your original home after awhile.
The film left my wife with this question.
‘Who lives in Wyoming? Have you ever meet anyone from Wyoming?”
